Overview

Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and maintains safe work behaviors and organization in machining areas (6S) through job safety analysis, complete safe work observations and 6S audits
  • Supervises machine shop department team members helping staff to produce products within time and cost from prints and fixtures
  • Executes machine shop production plan by coordinating with sales, engineering, material control, fabrication and shipping departments
  • Establishes production priorities, monitors progress and resolves production issues, schedules activities and employees
  • Works with Mfg. Eng. to develop machining operations that improve productivity including monitoring department KPI’s and adjusting operations to exceed targets
  • Drives on time delivery to the customer by analyzing jobs to drive process improvements.  Pre-machine and post-production turnover sessions to discuss opportunities for improvement as well as working to continuously improve the actual machining processes are expected to take place for smooth transitions while working to eliminate non-value added steps and ensure best practices are being followed
  • Ensures product quality and reduces scrap and rework through root cause analysis and identify permanent corrective action
  • Manages to budget by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions
  • Manages and develops employees, including cross training and performance management
  • Leads the continuous improvement effort to reduce waste and document processes and procedures. Is a mentor to the team members surrounding Lean techniques and methods

Skills:

  • Proficient with Lawson M3, Vault, and Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical aptitude; ability to read blueprints and understand manufacturing processes with a high attention to detail
  • Demonstrated or known management and leadership skills; has the ability to inspire and motivate staff
  • Experience with analyzing job results and planning workflow
  • Lean Manufacturing knowledge and application

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree in Machining required
  • Continuous Improvement/Lean management experience required
  • Five years of machining experience required
  • Three to seven years supervisory experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field strongly preferred
