Maintenance Mechanic

Job Locations US-VA-Smithfield


Troubleshoots and repairs complex food processing and packaging equipment along with aid in the up keep of the facility and grounds.

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 2 to 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Welding experience is required
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

60% involvement with operations of the plant processing and Packaging equipment.

20% Complete corrective maintenance work orders, preventive maintenance work orders.

5% Projects ie., to improve operation efficiency & safety of plant processing

5% Food safety, Health safety, & technical training to employees

5% Daily staff meeting with maintenance supervisor, management, & associates detailing plant operations, improvements, projects, etc.

5% Assists parts manager in insuring an adequate supply of parts is maintained.



  1. View all areas of plant processing and packaging equipment
  2. Review process schedule.
  3. Preventative and predictive maintenance along with trouble shooting and repairs of non scheduled break downs
  4. Assess all downtime situations and notify maintenance Supervisor /maintenance Manager of any major problems
  5. Review work orders and preventive maintenance work orders and prioritize.
  6. Meet with relief personnel to discuss previous shift situations or any major problems
  7. Review shift operations with Supervisor.
  8. Conduct Repairs and Preventative maintenance to assigned equipment.
  9. Completed required daily paper work and turn in to the active supervisor.

  • Ability to Visualize a Project from Start to Finish.
